
Strengthening Healthcare Partnerships between Malaysia and Qatar at Island Hospital Penang
A high-level delegation from the State of Qatar recently visited Island Hospital Penang to explore opportunities for healthcare collaboration and international patient referrals, marking another positive step towards strengthening medical tourism ties between Malaysia and Qatar.
The delegation was led by His Excellency Salah bin Mohammed Al-Sorour, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Malaysia, and included representatives from the Embassy of Qatar, Qatar Airways, and PMED. The visit provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions on enhancing healthcare cooperation and expanding access to quality medical services for international patients.
The delegation was welcomed by Ms. Lim Kooi Ling, Chief Executive Officer of Island Hospital, who introduced the hospital’s healthcare capabilities and shared its commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. Discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration that could benefit patients seeking treatment in Malaysia.
Also present was YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, whose participation underscored the state’s continued commitment to promoting Penang as a leading destination for medical tourism and international healthcare services.
PMED was represented by its Chairperson, Dr. Mary Ann, who assisted in coordinating the visit and facilitating engagement between the respective parties. The visit reflects PMED’s ongoing efforts to support initiatives that encourage international healthcare collaboration and strengthen Penang’s medical tourism ecosystem.
