Singapore Healthcare Group’s Aptus Surgery & Specialists Centre opens in Penang

Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow officiated the new Aptus Surgery & Specialists Centre along Burmah Road this morning. The medical centre provides a wide range of serving thus adding to the medical tourism industry of the state

Also present at the launch ceremony was YB Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Women, Family & Community Development, Dr. Fazilah Shaik Allaudin, Director of the Penang State Health Department, Dr. Mary Ann Harris, Director of Penang Centre of Medical Tourism (PMED), Dato’ Seri Sonny Ho, CEO of Belleview Group, Prof. LimBeng Hai among others.

In his speech Chow welcomed the opening of the medical centre as It reflects confidence in where Penang is heading, and it adds a valuable option for residents and families seeking care.

“Penang has grown into a state with strong foundations in healthcare. We have committed professionals, trusted institutions, and a steady flow of investment that continues to expand our capacity and raise standards.

“Penang has also built a strong reputation as a medical tourism destination, and recent data reflects this momentum. In 2025, PMED member hospitals recorded over 449,000 foreign patients, an increase of 7.3 percent compared to 2024. Revenue from medical tourism reached approximately RM985 million, marking a 9.8 percent growth year-on-year.

“These figures demonstrate continued confidence in Penang as a healthcare destination. Developments like this strengthen that position by expanding capacity,
improving patient experience, and reinforcing trust among patients from the region” said Chow.

He later joined hands with VIP guests to perform the ribbon cutting ceremony and also signed the plaque to mark the opening.
